Six Married sisters from Kericho to inherit father’s land in landmark ruling
Rene Otinga|April. 15, 2019
Six sisters have scored big over their rival brothers after winning a landmark inheritance case in a piece of land left behind by their deceased father.
The sisters, Rachel Korir, Esther Korir, Alice Korir, Jane Ruto, Elizabeth Sang and Sarah Rotich, were handed title deeds on Monday, April 15 by Deputy Chief Lands Registrar Ms Pauline Muriithi.
Each of the six sisters will now be entitled to a five-acre piece of land out of a larged 42 acre tract.
It was quite the historic moment, particularly in the Kipsigis community as married women are traditionally excluded from matters entailing inheritance of land.
