Barcelona supporters snubbed Lionel Messi and other squad members as they filed out to a guard of honour during their supposed title celebration against Getafe on Sunday.
According to UK Express, Barca fans are reportedly unhappy with the team’s shambolic performance at Anfield on Tuesday, May 7 and clashed with Messi at Liverpool’s John Lennon Airport after the match.
The fury among the fans was expected to have subsided before the tie against Getafe, but that did not happen.
The away side gave Barcelona, who won the league title 14 days ago, a guard of honour as they came onto the pitch.
But moments later, some angry home supporters started booing Messi and his teammates as they came out of the tunnel and passed between the two rows formed by Getafe players.
“Getafe give Barça players a guard of honour for winning La Liga, Camp Nou whistles the Barça players for messing up the Champions League,” ESPN journalist Samuel Marsden tweeted.
In addition, they were thousands of empty seats inside the Camp Nou, with fans turning on the players’ individually to show their pains after their performance.
The crowd then turned on individual players to hammer home their dismay.
Brazil star Coutinho was devastated with boos and chants as he struggled with ball during the encounter.
Veteran Sergio Busquets was not left out as anger fans shouted him down after losing the ball away twice in Barca’s penalty area.
Interestingly, the club’s official Twitter account revealed that attendance for the game was 57,088, below the average turnout of 77,000 in the 99,354-capacity stadium.
