Management at the Accra Psychiatric hospital are pressing on government to prioritize the renovation of the health facility due to its current poor state.
The management of the Accra Psychiatric hospital is calling on government to as a matter of urgency renovate the health facility.
According to the management, the hospital lacks the needed equipment for smooth operation as a result of inadequate funds.
Public Relations Officer of the hospital, Francisca Ntow, at an event powered by Somotex Ghana Limited to mark Mother’s Day bemoaned how uncomfortable it is to always rely on the public for support. But:
He disclosed the health facility is financially challenged while indicating that mental health is supposed to be free in the country and government must pay for the services they render to mental patients.
But, ‘‘the funds do not often come which makes us run into shortage of food items, logistics and we will have to run to the public for support,” she added.
The PRO further stated that: “we cannot continue to keep running the facility on donations. Secondly, our facility is in a very poor state and not a place we should be keeping mental patients. We are pleading on government again to come to our aid to renovate the facility quickly.”
The event was organized to celebrate mothers at the mental also aimed at providing the necessary support and to assist Accra Psychiatric Hospital to become the leading psychiatric institution in Ghana and West Africa through best practices in psychiatric care, dedicated workforce and friendly environment for clients.
