PSG play their final match of the season this Friday when they take on Reims.
Mbappe, 20, has scored 32 league goals this season but remains four behind Argentinian Messi, who finished his campaign on Sunday with two goals against Eibar to take his tally to 36.
The French star, who picked up the Ligue 1 player of the season last night, will have to go some to take the award away from Messi, who has won it five times previously including the last two seasons.
Speaking at the Union Nationale des Footballers Professionnels awards (the French PFA awards), Mbappe said: “Yes, I’m aiming for the golden shoe this year. This afternoon I took a break in my nap to see Messi’s match - after his two goals I went back to bed!
“I still have 90 mins, I have nothing to lose!”
Paris Saint-Germain take on ninth-placed Reims on Friday night, a side they beat 4-1 back in September, although Mbappe did not feature in the match.
Mbappe was well in the running to beat Messi for the golden shoe but has spoilt those chances by being suspended for four of his last five games.
But he has given himself a slim chance of picking up the coveted prize by scoring two goals against Dijon in PSG’s penultimate game of the campaign.
The 20-year-old superstar has scored three hat-tricks in Ligue 1 this season, including four back in October against Lyon.
