4 Signs Mbappe Can Score 5 Goals And Overtake Messi In Golden Shoe Race
May. 24, 2019
It’s the final match day of the Ligue 1 and even though Paris Saint-German (PSG) already have the cup in the bag with 91 points, Kylian Mbappe still has a huge weight on his shoulders.
PSG would be playing ninth- place Stade Reims on the last MatchDay of the season and Mbappe must score at least 4 goals in the match to catch up with Barcelona star, Lionel Messi in the Golden Shoe race.
Messi leads the scramble for the Golden Shoe with 36 goals and Mbappe comes in second with 32 goals.
Even though it looks like a long shot, we see all the signs that Mbappe can catch up with Messi and snatch the Golden Shoe from himself.
· Harvest Of Goals
The match bears the promise of many goals as the Ligue 1 season comes to an end.
The last time both teams met back in September 2018, PSG beat Reims 4-1. It was a goal rush despite the absence of wonder-boy Kylian Mbappe.
Now that Mbappe is available and has something to prove, he will surely be coming with his boots laced for blazing goals.
· Hat-trick Hero
It is no doubt that Mbappe is well on his way to achieving great things in football’s history books.
The 20-year-old has three hat-tricks this season, the most of any Ligue player in the season-ending.
And that is not his greatest achievement this season. The Frenchman left us in awe when he scored a whopping 4 goals in thirteen minutes.
We can’t help but expect great things now that he needs to deliver!
· Fewer Games
Whether Mbappe gets the Golden Shoe or not, it is worthy to note that Mbappe has had a very impressive season.
Unfortunately for Mbappe, he had a period of injury and a 3-match ban after he was shown red for a reckless tackle.
In light of this, he has played just 28 games this season, ten matches short of the maximum 38 matches in Ligue 1.
On the other hand, Messi has played 36 games in the La Liga this season.
We can’t help but share the French forward’s enthusiasm and confidence in his ability to catch up with Lionel Messi.
In a recent interview, Mbappe insisted that he is still very much in the race to win the Golden Boot:
“Yes, I’m aiming for the golden shoe this year,” he said.
“This afternoon I took a break in my nap to see Messi’s match - after his two goals, I went back to bed!
“I still have 90 mins, I have nothing to lose!”
Fingers crossed for the young world cup winner!
