Nigerian President Muhammad Buhari has deployed strong words to condemn the uninterrupted attacks in Sokoto State on Saturday and Sunday causing several casualties including 25 civilian deaths.
"Acts of violence and terrorism against innocent Nigerians will be met with serious force and the perpetrators and sponsors of these dastardly acts would be hunted down and held accountable under the law," Buhari said, according to a statement by Garba Shehu, the President's Spokesman.
The bandits were said to have raided  three communities in Rabah local government area of the state.
Scooper reliably learnt that the attackers invaded Kalhu, Tsage and Geeri villages near Gandi on Saturday.
They shot from around 5pm on Saturday till Sunday morning, after which they moved hundreds of cows, sheep and other valuables.
Recall that Rabah has been experiencing attacks in recent time. Some of those rendered in the attacks homeless are now taking refuge at an internally displaced persons camp in Gandi.
The state Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, attended the funeral of the 25 persons on Sunday.
Alongside heads of security agencies, traditional rulers and government officials, the governor condoled families of the victims after the burial held at Gandi town.
He pledged that the government would take more measures “to end such uncivilized and barbaric attacks”, and urged community members to assist security agencies with useful information to track the bandits.
Speaking to reporters after the funeral, Ibrahim Kajoe, commissioner of police in the state, said four persons, including an informant who pretended to be a lunatic, had been arrested.
Kaoje said a joint security operation was in progress to contain banditry and other crimes in the state.
The latest killings bring to 108 the number of persons who have been killed in the state from 2018 till date.
