Daily Trust reports that President Buhari, vice president Professor Yemi Osinbajo, party chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, some governors and lawmakers met in Abuja on Monday, June 10 to make last minute decisions.
The meeting took place just as members of the Peoples Democratic Party had a similar meeting concerning National Assembly leadership.
A source privy to th APC meeting said the president appealed to lawmakers.
He said: “The president said he wants to retire well, and that he wants Nigerians to be happy with him at the end of his second tenure. To do that, he said, he needs the support of the National Assembly, and for that to happen, we have to support the party’s position.
Another source at the meeting said: “The president was emphatic about party supremacy. He said we should all respect the party’s decision on the presiding officers. And the message resonated well with us all.”
Meanwhile, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) expressed support for Senator Ali Ndume for the position of the President of the Senate of the 9th National Assembly (NASS).
The party in a statement issued by its National Secretary, Senator Umar Tsauri, early on Tuesday, June 11 also endorsed Umar Bago for the post of Speaker of the House of Representatives.
TSauri said that the endorsement was arrived at after very extensive consultations with critical stakeholders ahead of the inauguration of the 9th NASS
