Kalu, Okorocha, Ibediro working against Igbo interest to please Buhari, APC – Ohanaeze
July. 10, 2019
The apex Igbo Socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has lambasted the National Organizing Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Emma Ibediro, over his statement on the clamour by the people of Southeast zone for the actualization of Nigeria President of Igbo extraction in 2023.
DAILY POST had reported on Tuesday, that the National Organising Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Hon. Emma Ibediro had stated that getting an Igbo President in 2023 was not a right. According to him, aspiration must involve every part of the country.
Ibediro said that the Igbo nation must be ready to work within the ruling party or any other platform they intend to use to actualise their dream of ruling Nigeria.
“In 2015, only 198,000 votes came in from the entire south-east. In 2019, we had a little above 400,000″.
“Some people will say that it is an improvement. What type of improvement is that?
But, Ohanaeze, in a statement issued by its Spokesman, Chuks Ibegbu, Wednesday, warned Ibediro, Orji Uzor Kalu, Rochas Okorocha and some Igbo leaders to stop abusing their people, because of the political position they occupy.
The group wondered why a full-blooded Igbo man could make such a statement.
Ohanaeze’s statement reads, “I don’t expect Igbos to be at the vanguard of such discouraging statements. The other time it was Rotimi Amaechi, Orji Uzor Kalu and then, Rochas Okorocha. Some Igbos fully identified with Buhari and some others with Atiku just as some Northerners, westerners and Niger Delta did too. What is exceptional about Igbo position. When the Yorubas rejected Obasanjo, was he not made Nigeria President? Did the Niger Delta or the North all lick the buttocks of power holders in Nigeria before their own became Nigeria President.
“Why must Igbo own be different and worst of all, our own people talking like those that took tramadol. Nobody in the North or West or even Niger Delta will openly make such statements against their people even if their people are political mumu. What has become of the courageous Igbo politicians we used to know in the past. Something must be wrong with the pysche of these people I think. Maybe some of them have other blood running in their veins.
“Nobody has monopoly of political wisdom, not in the North, not in the west and not anywhere. Sometimes it’s just mere luck or political intimidation, nyerenyereism and ndorodorism (dashing and contest). We advise Igbo politicians who do not know what to say or how to engaged their co-competitors in other parts of the country to keep quiet than embarrassing their race”.
