no way 'I'll call talkSPORT for you' - Rod Stewart asks Newcastle crowd about Bruce as boss

Rod Stewart asked his Newcastle crowd how they would feel if Steve Bruce became Magpies manager – and was met with resounding boos.
The musical superstar even mentioned talkSPORT during his chat at the Newcastle Arena, saying he’ll ring into the station to make the Toon Army’s feelings known.

Rod was playing his first Newcastle show in six years, and brought up Bruce’s potential move to St James’ Park during a break between songs.
A massive football fan, and a frequent guest on talkSPORT to discuss his beloved Celtic, the 74-year-old former Faces singer had clearly seen Bruce become favourite for the job in the hours before he took to the stage.
The odds on Sheffield Wednesday boss Bruce becoming Newcastle manager were slashed on Tuesday, and the 58-year-old now leads the way ahead of previous favourites Mikel Arteta and John Terry.
Bruce is not likely to be a popular choice on Tyneside, however, as he is considered an ‘old-fashioned’ manager by many and given the fact he used to be in charge of Newcastle’s fierce rivals Sunderland.

“What do you think about Steve Bruce becoming manager?”, Sir Rod asked the crowd at the Newcastle Arena, as seen in a video on the Chronicle .
Unsurprisingly, the crowd reacted with boos all round.
And Rod responded in typical fashion – even calling out talkSPORT live on stage.
He continued: “Oh f***, I don’t know what to do about that…
“I’ll call talkSPORT for you.”
Bruce is currently in charge of Sheffield Wednesday, and he discussed the rumours of a potential move to St James’ Park on Tuesday evening,
“God only knows what happened on Tuesday afternoon,” said Bruce from Wednesday’s training base in Portugal. “There seemed to be an upsurge [in the betting] from somewhere.
“John Terry was favourite yesterday. It was Mikel Arteta the day before so who knows.
“As far as I am concerned, I am here, I am going home tomorrow and looking forward to walking the dog!”
Nonetheless, The Sun now report the Magpies are ready to make a formal approach for Bruce, with the Tyneside club willing to pay the compensation required to release him from his contract at Hillsborough.
