Andi Eigenmann gets real about PPD: ‘I haven’t been feeling like myself lately’

Postpartum Depression (PPD) is common, affecting one in eight women during the first months after child birth. It is when a mother runs the gamut of emotions – just ask Andi Eigenmann.
On Instagram recently, the actress who gave birth to her second daughter Lilo last July 23, revealed she focused so much on preparing her post-pregnancy body that she neglected there’s also an emotional aspect to it.
“Being vocal about body and self love on social media before my last pregnancy, I had focused so much on preparing my mind to accept myself for the way I will look even after giving birth, and the possibility of not “bouncing back.” What (I) didn’t realize is that there are also other aspects of being a new mom (again) that I may have needed to prepare my mind for as well. I neglected the part where emotional healing might be necessary too,” she wrote.
Andi admitted she hasn’t been feeling like her old self lately, and that sleepless nights are getting the best of her.

“…When the others are asleep I’d shed tears I’d normally save for my acting performances on tv show finales (lol). I’ve been having so many thoughts of guilt. I’ve been questioning every decision I’ve made that led me here. I read so much about caring for a newborn and prepping to be a new mom again but I seemed to have ignored post partum depression. (I guess cus it didnt seem exciting.),” said she.
Amid lack of knowledge on her condition, Andi seeks advice on how she could come to terms with Postpartum Depression.
“Just hoping that the fact that I’m aware of other moms going through this, and that I am acknowledging what this feeling may be, will hopefully be helpful. But I know there are other more helpful ways. Any advice would be much appreciated!” she said.
The post came with a photo of herself with Lilo and first daughter, Ellie.
“My girls. My source of strength and inspiration. It will be us 3 no matter what. My greatest loves. Always, always, always,” she wrote.
Andi has been living together with boyfriend Philmar, father of Lilo, for more than a year now.
In a previous interview on TV, she shared acceptance and respect are the keys to their happy relationship.
“Ang importante mayroon kaming respeto sa sarili, sinusubukan namin ‘yung best namin para magkaintindihan kami at saka mag-grow kami together as a team. I feel like that’s what makes our relationship special is because doon nanggagaling ‘yung love sa respect and understanding,” she said.
