Fake police officers steal KSh 72 million from G4S personnel, ATM in Nairobi
Sept. 05, 2019
Police in Nairobi have launched investigations into incident where fake police officers made away with KSh 72 million from cash-on-transit van and ATM in Nairobi West area.
The G4S officers had reportedly collected money from their headquarters in Witu road at around 6am on the morning of Thursday, September 5.
They left for their destination for deposits at the StanChart Bank at Nairobi West shopping.
Unknown to them, two vehicles sandwitched them, one in front while the other at the back.
However, no sooner had they reached the bank and load the cash at the ATM machine, than three armed robbers in police uniform jumped out of two vehicles.
Petrified victims handed over 13 money bags in the process.
The fake police officers also made some withdrawals from the same automated machine.
Even though they robbers had been trailing them, the victims thought they were genuine police officers sent to offer normal transit services as had been the norm.
Unconfirmed reports indicated detectives have recorded statement from G4S security manager Bernard Apidi.
