Ken Okoth’s brother Imran Okoth will lift the ODM flag in the oncoming Kibra by-elections after winning the party’s nominations.
Imran, who beat ten other aspirants including influential Kenyan reggae DJ Kris Darling, will now have bragging rights of the most celebrated political party in the Constituency.
Okoth’s brother garnered 4,382 votes followed by Peter Orero who managed 1,218 with John Milla Otieno closing the top three with 906 votes in the ODM party primaries conducted on Saturday.
In a statement on their official twitter account, the ODM party Secretary General Edwin Sifuna thanked the Kibra people for contacting a peaceful party primary.
“Thank you to all @TheODMparty members in Kibra for conducting yourselves like the democrats we have always known you to be. Thank you for your patience in the face of various challenges as you voted today. Congratulations ndugu Imran Okoth”, Sifuna said in a statement .
Imran will now face Jubilee’s McDonald Mariga, ANC Eliud Owalo and Ford Kenya’s Engineer Khamisi Butichi in the Constituency’s by-elections slated for November 7.
The Kibra seat was left vacant following the death of the former MP Ken Okoth who succumbed to colorectal cancer at the Nairobi hospital in July.
All parties are expected to forward names of aspirants for clearance on Monday ahead of official campaigns that will run up to November 5th.
