Ansu Fati becomes youngest player to represent Barcelona in Champions League after wonderkid is handed start against Borussia Dortmund
Sept. 17, 2019
Ansu Fati will become the youngest player to ever represent Barcelona in Champions League after being named in the starting XI to face Borussia Dortmund for the Group G clash.
The teenage sensation will make his European bow at the famous Westfalenstadion at the age of just 16 years and 351 days.
The decision for him to start comes after a number of injury problems at Camp Nou – including Lionel Messi, who was only fit enough to return to the bench.
Fatu is 231 days younger than Messi was when he made his debut in Europe’s premier club competition
And the winger became Barca’s youngest ever debutant earlier this season and then become their youngest ever goalscorer before the international break when he netted against Osasuna.
It appears Barca may have unearthed their future talisman in the Guinea-Bissau-born forward, who joined the club’s famous La Masia academy when he was ten.
Just six years later and he’s a first-team player, goalscorer and club record-breaker – and he will be hoping he can become their youngest ever European scorer tonight with a goal.
