The New England Patriots shocked many around the NFL Friday when they released former Pittsburgh Steelers and Oakland Raiders receiver Antonio Brown after he played in just one game with the team.
"The New England Patriots are releasing Antonio Brown," the Patriots wrote in a statement. "We appreciate the hard work of many people over the past 11 days, but we feel that it is best to move in a different direction at this time."
Brown is facing a civil lawsuit from his former trainer Britney Taylor, who alleged that Brown sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions.
A second woman, who painted a mural in Brown's home, also accused Brown of sexual misconduct, and told Sports Illustrated on Thursday she received threatening text messages from the wide receiver.
Following Brown's Friday release from the Patriots, a number of NFL analysts and former players took to Twitter to weigh in on the release.
Many applauded the Patriots for cutting ties with the controversial receiver, while others provided details into how much money Brown will likely forfeit after his release.
