Two Bay Area tunnels could be closed as soon as Tuesday evening due to PG&E's planned power outages set for this week.
Caltrans announced Tuesday afternoon that both the Caldecott Tunnel on Highway 24 and the Tom Lantos Tunnel on State Route 1 in Pacifica could be closed as soon as this evening, but no specific times were given.
"We & @CaltransD4 are preparing for full closures of the Caldecott Tunnel in @CCCounty & @AlamedaCounty on SR 24 & the Tom Lantos Tunnel along SR 1 in @Pacifica as soon as this evening, due to the @PGE4Me Public Safety Power Shutoff #PSPS. The tunnels can't operate without power," the agency said in a tweet .
Caltrans District 4 announced in its own tweet that the situation " remains fluid " and encouraged locals to stay updated through 511.org .
SFGATE has reached out to Caltrans for more information and will update this story as more details emerge.
