Tottenham Hotspur are one of three clubs “pushing hard” to sign Barcelona centre-back Samuel Umtiti, that is according to a report from Spanish news outlet El Desmarque .
It is thought that Spurs, as well as Manchester United and Arsenal, are keen on securing the Frenchman’s services as they look to bolster their defensive options.
The 26-year-old has fallen out of favour at the Nou Camp in recent times largely due to injury problems and has made just five appearances in La Liga this term, four of which were starts ( Transfermarkt ).
According to the report, Barca want Umtiti gone as soon as possible and therefore a cut-price deal may be possible to ensure that he moves on in this transfer window.
Spurs could be looking for a new centre-back to replace Jan Vertonghen, whose contract is set to expire at the end of the campaign ( Transfermarkt ).
Indeed, as well as Umtiti, they have also been linked with several other central defenders, including Jerome Boateng ( Bleacher Report ) and Nathan Ake ( Telegraph ).
It seems that most Spurs fans would love to see the club sign Umtiti though, this is what some had to say about it on Twitter…
