Ghana Card Registration: Beautiful girls allegedly get preferential treatment in Ashanti Region
Jan. 13, 2020
The Executive Secretary of the National Identification Authority (NIA) Professor Ken Atefuah has taken it hard at Ghana Card Registration officers bowing to undue influence to give preferential treatment to registrants.
The NIA points out that some officers are taking advantage of stranded beautiful ladies who they target and occasionally call out of the long queues to facilitate their registration for amorous favours.
Speaking on Abusua FM in Kumasi, Prof. Ken Atefuah recounted, “We have incidents where the young guys will go and point to a lady in a queue to follow them to the registration table.”
“They go to the extent of telling them how beautiful they are and whether or not they are married. Even when some lie that they are married their male registration officers, get to find out when they are filling the marital status part of the forms.”
“They jokingly tell them they caught them and go ahead to copy the phone numbers that the ladies will provide for the forms,” a worried Ken Atefua narrated.
He was also concerned some landlords who offer their places of accommodation for registration officers also make advances at the registration officers demanding protocol treatments for themselves and their assigns.
Prof. Ken Atefua however assured that beyond the five persons who were picked up by the police and subsequently dismissed for registration malpractices; his outfit has some hardworking persons of integrity.
He however empathized with the number of residents in the never-ending queues at the various registration centres despite the over 3000 equipments deployed to cater for the huge population of the Ashanti region.
He was emphatic the NIA will not extend its stay beyond Thursday, January 16 but advised that people take advantage of continuous registration centres which will be established in all regions and districts from March this year.
