Burglar broke into friends' Norwich flat just days after their bodies were found inside
Jan. 16, 2020
A man burgled a flat in Norwich, just days after the bodies of a couple he knew were discovered inside the property.
Ashley Bindley, 25, broke into the flat in Providence Place on 4 June last year, three days after the bodies of 19-year-old Gaynor Robinson and 23-year-old Billy Applegate were found inside.
Bindley smashed a side window to break into the property, stealing a bank card, tobacco, children’s trainers, clothes, Playstation 3, LG TV and a child’s money box.
The defendant was arrested after he was seen with a bank card belonging to Gaynor.
Bindley, of St Leonards Road, Norwich, pleaded guilty to burglary and appeared at the city’s crown court on Thursday (9 January 2020) and was sentenced to 25 months imprisonment.
It’s hard to think that someone could stoop so low for the sake of a few belongings, made even worse by the fact Bindley was friends with the couple who were found dead inside the property.
"Bindley’s actions have caused even more distress to the families of the young couple and it’s pleasing the courts have seen fit to put him behind bars.”
– Investigating officer, Detective Constable Chris Edwards
The deaths were not suspicious and inquests are due to take place in February.
