A bushfire has broken out in a national park on secluded French Island, home to a small and isolated community in Victoria's Western Port Bay.
The out-of-control fire started on Ridge Track on French Island about 2pm, according to a VicEmergency advice message issued on Saturday afternoon.
A CFA tanker and waterbomber are at the scene. The community has been advised that there is no threat to properties.
French Island is Victoria's largest island and is only accessible via a ferry that runs from Stony Point on the Mornington Peninsula and Cowes at nearby Phillip Island.
Residents of French island mostly live in solitude, with Kylie Minogue one former homeowner.
The roads on the island are dirt tracks, there are no police and many of the vehicles are unregistered. It is also known for being free of introduced animals like foxes.
