Bruno Fernandes to Manchester United: Transfer latest with deal possibly OFF as Red Devils baulk over valuation
Jan. 19, 2020
Manchester United’s efforts to sign Bruno Fernandes have been dealt a blow with Sporting Lisbon refusing to budge on their £68million valuation of the playmaker.
The Portugal international is believed to be desperate to secure a move to Old Trafford this month, but Old Trafford chiefs are determined they won’t be held to ransom by the Primeira Liga club.
United are said to value the midfielder at around £38million – with add-ons potentially increasing this initial fee – but the two parties are still far apart in their valuations of the 25-year-old.
The Guardian say Sporting are seeking £68m for Fernandes, with the Red Devils unwilling to pay this fee, which they consider inflated.
This could spell the end of Fernandes’ proposed move, with the transfer off unless Sporting reduce their demands.
United still want to do a deal, however, and talks are expected to resume with Sporting over the next couple of days as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is desperate to bring in a new midfielder this month.
Solskjaer’s side, who face Premier League pace-setters Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday , are wary that if they pay over the odds for Fernandes the prices of other targets are likely to be inflated.
Leicester playmaker James Maddison, Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish and Ajax’s Donny van de Beek have all been linked with a move to Old Trafford.
Tottenham looked at Fernandes last summer but were unwilling to pay more than £39m – around half of what Sporting were demanding at the time.
Spurs have since signed another Portugal midfielder, Gedson Fernandes , bringing him in on an initial loan deal from Benfica earlier this week.
