Tony Cascarino says Manchester United are in desperate need of a creative midfielder like Kevin De Bruyne.
The Man City star, who is widely regarded as one of the Premier League’s best players, has 14 Premier League assists this season as well as seven goals to his name.
Daniel James has the most league assists for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side this season with six, while Marcus Rashford has four.
United have struggled creatively all season – not helped by Paul Pogba’s continuing absence through injury – and it is clear one of Solskjaer’s biggest problems is the lack of attacking threat in his midfield.
But how can the under-fire Red Devils boss solve this issue?
The answer is simple according to former Chelsea and Ireland forward Cascarino – sign a player like De Bruyne to guarantee goals and assists from the middle of the park!
“They need a midfielder that can create and make assists,” talkSPORT pundit Casc told Sunday’s Weekend Sports Breakfast.
“If you look at De Bruyne at City – he’s a bad example because he’s so good – without his assists and creating for people around him, whether it’s [Sergio] Aguero, [Raheem] Sterling or Bernardo Silva, he creates so much.
“United need that because I don’t think they’ve got [a player like that] at the moment. I look at Fred, [Scott] McTominay and [Nemanja] Matic…
“Someone who can see passes is very rare in the game. Someone who has the ability to lift their head up and find that pass.”

There has been a stark contrast in the number of goals and big chances created by the two Manchester clubs this season.
In the Premier League City have scored 64 times and created 68 big chances while Man United have scored just 36 goals and had a mere 33 big chances.
The Red Devils have been heavily linked with a move for Sporting and Portugal midfielder Bruno Fernandes as Solskjaer seeks to add that much-needed spark of creativity.
He has netted 15 times for Sporting this season after a remarkable 2018/19 campaign saw a return of 32 goals and 18 assists in 53 games.
