Motorcyclist killed, pillion rider sustains serious injuries in collision with car at Miri-Bintulu coastal road

MIRI: A motorcyclist was killed while his pillion rider sustained serious injuries when the motorcycle they were travelling on collided head-on with an oncoming car near Kejapil junction at Miri-Bintulu coastal road at around 1pm today.
The deceased was identified as 21-year-old Steven Ateng of Rh Duat Sg Kelitang Sibuti.
He was pronounced dead at the scene due to the serious injuries.
His pillion rider, known as 21-year-old Clarance Ramos Kerry, was sent to Miri Hospital for treatment.
According to eyewitnesses, the duo were travelling from Miri heading towards Bekenu.
Upon passing Kejapil junction, the deceased was said to have tried to overtake a vehicle in front of him, causing him to crash into an oncoming car – a Perodua Viva.
Their machine landed on the Viva’s windscreen, while the two were thrown-off the motorcycle, causing them to suffer from serious injuries.
The driver of the Viva escaped unhurt in the accident.
Police are at the scene investigating.
