Jadon Sancho AND Hakim Ziyech to come in? How Chelsea could line-up next season with Frank Lampard set to spend £200million
Feb. 12, 2020
It’s been a topsy-turvy season for Chelsea but an optimistic atmosphere remains at Stamford Bridge with Frank Lampard at the helm and the club in pole position to land fourth spot.
If you had offered Blues fans a place in the last-16 of the Champions League and a top four spot in February at the start of the season, nine out of ten supporters would have bitten your hand off – so credit has to be given to the fresh-faced English boss.
It’s just a shame that Lampard was ultimately let down by the Stamford Bridge hierarchy in January.
The former Derby boss was told there would be one or two additions but no one arrived, while top four rivals Man United, Tottenham, Sheffield United and Arsenal all strengthened.
Due to the transfer ban – which was halved on appeal by the Court of Arbitration for Sport – Chelsea have now gone two windows without any additions to their squad.
A big rebuild is bound to take place in the summer, but who could be on their way to Stamford Bridge? talkSPORT.com has identified Lampard’s best XI if all his targets are signed…
Jason Cundy thinks Jadon Sancho would be a great signing for Liverpool - 'Go and get the very best’
Ben Chilwell (Leicester)
Chelsea are in dire need of a reliable left-back with Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri inconsistent and arguably not good enough to merit a starting spot in the XI.
The Blues are sure to add in that position in the summer and one name who has been constantly linked with a move to Stamford Bridge is Foxes full-back Chilwell.
The English defender had a superb start to the season and despite his displays tailing off in recent weeks, he remains a top target for Chelsea.
The 23-year-old is solid both defensively and in attack and at his young age he will only get better.
Leicester will try their best to keep hold of the England international but a sizeable bid could see him make the switch to the London club.
Jadon Sancho (Borussa Dortmund)
The England winger is enjoying another magnificent season in Germany, where he has racked up an astonishing 12 goals and 13 assists.
All fingers are pointing towards a big move in the summer, the question is; where will he go?
Manchester United are desperate to sign him but if they do not qualify for the Champions League then they have little chance of sealing a deal.
Therefore, Chelsea are frontrunners to sign the forward, with the Blues being Sancho’s boyhood club as a fan and Lampard ready to cough up in excess of £100m to sign him.

German football pundit Kevin Hatchard has told talkSPORT that the west London club are in pole position, despite interest from Barcelona and Real Madrid.
“The Premier League is a possibility and I think Chelsea would be interested and he’s got a soft spot for them,” the talkSPORT pundit said.
“Personally I think if somebody bid in the region of €140m, I think that’s a fair price.
“If you look at what players go for now, and at the fact Dortmund agreed a new contract with him and that several clubs will go for him, I don’t think €140m is unreasonable.”
Hakim Ziyech (Ajax)
Reports have circulated Chelsea are close to agreeing a deal with Ajax over the signing of Ziyech in the summer.
Chelsea chiefs failed in their attempt to recruit the Morocco international in the January transfer window, with Ajax unwilling to let the playmaker go mid-season.
However, according to the Daily Telegraph, the 26-year-old could be lured away from the Johan Cruyff Arena for around £42m.
Ziyech will appeal to Lampard for his versatility as he can play in any of the forward positions behind the striker.
Many reports are suggesting that Chelsea are targeting Ziyech as a cheaper alternative to Sancho, however, with Willian stalling on a new deal and Pedro on his way out in the summer, two wingers will be needed to be brought in to provide competition for Callum Hudson-Odoi and Christian Pulisic.
Ziyech has dazzled this season for the Dutch champions with six goals and 12 assists in 18 Eredivisie matches.
Moussa Dembele (Lyon)
The French striker was linked to both Chelsea and Man United in January but the Ligue 1 club were reluctant to sell him without finding a replacement.
However, Lampard is an admirer of the forward and is set to renew his interest in the summer, with Lyon reportedly ready to sell the marksman if the offer is right, according to L’Equipe.
Dembele, 23, has scored 19 goals this season was keen on joining the Blues before his club blocked the transfer.
Lyon are actively searching for a replacement for their marksman, who has has enjoyed an excellent scoring record in his career after spells at Fulham and Celtic before his move back to France n in 2018.
In Lampard’s XI he will likely provide competition for Tammy Abraham up front, with Michy Batshuayi not rated by the English boss and Olivier Giroud set to leave the club in the summer.
