Liverpool to hand Virgil van Dijk new contract ‘worth £50million’ as Reds look to fend off Juventus interest

Feb. 12, 2020

Liverpool are ready to offer Virgil van Dijk a new deal worth a reported £50million to commit his future to the club.
The defender, 28, has played an instrumental role in the Reds’ rapid rise since he arrived at Anfield in January 2018.
Last season, he helped Liverpool win the Champions League while also scooping a prestigious personal accolade in the PFA Player of the Year award.
He even went through a period where no player managed to dribble past him between March 2018 and August 2019.
And Liverpool’s Fenway Sports Group owners are expected to offer the Dutchman a lucrative five-year deal as a reward, according to Football Insider .
Van Dijk has been linked with a mega-money move to Juventus so securing his future will be seen as a priority.
It’s understood his wages will increase from £120,000-a-week to £150,000-a-week should he put pen to paper on fresh terms.
Liverpool have enjoyed an excellent rise since they recruited the centre-back, and they’ve already added the Super Cup and Club World Cup to their growing trophy haul this term.
They’re miles clear at the top of the Premier League having won 24 out of 25 matches this season as they close in on a first league title in 30 years.
A win over Norwich on Saturday will see them go 25 points clear of second place side and defending champions Manchester City.
