MANJUNG: A teenager is feared drowned after being swept away by high tide near Teluk Nipah beach here Wednesday (Feb 12).
A Perak Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said the boy, Mohd Nazrul Helmi Nazri, 17, went missing on Wednesday at about 3.50pm.
"The victim and two of his friends had walked to Pulau Giam, an islet near the beach, during low tide.
"During the walk back, the tide came back in and swept all three out to sea," he said.
"Two of the victim's friends were rescued by a boat that was ferrying tourists," he added.
The spokesman said search-and-rescue operations are ongoing.
"We will continue with our surface search to look for the victim.
"Other agencies involved include the police, Rela, the Civil Defense Department and some local beach boys," he said.
