One of the accidents left teachers and students of Islamic University injured
At least six people have been killed and 72 others injured in separate accidents in Gopalganj, Rangamati and Kushtia districts.
The accidents occurred on Friday.
In Gopalganj , five construction workers were killed and seven others injured after a bus of Falguni Paribahan hit a nosimon on the Dhaka-Khulna highway in Pona area of Kashiani upazila around 7am.
The deceased are Bodir Molla, 24, Sumon Munshi, 20, Mizan Fokir, 40, Sirajul Islam Molla, 30, and Sujon Molla, 30. All were from Tita village of the upazila, on their way to work.
The injured were rushed to Kashiani Upazila Health Complex and later transferred to Gopalganj and Faridpur General hospitals as their conditions deteriorated, said the health complex's Resident Medical Officer Md Iqbal Khan.
Members of Bhanga Highway police station are conducting the rescue operation, he added.
In Rangamati , a bus helper was killed and 25 others got injured after a picnic bus flipped while turning in Sapchori area around 9:30am.
The identity of the bus helper could not be known immediately.
Workers from a Chinese furniture company at the Chittagong Export Processing Zone (CEPZ) were on their way to Rangamati for a picnic when the accident happened, said Rangamati police station Officer-in Charge (OC) Nurul Islam.
The injured have been admitted to Rangamati General Hospital, he added.
In Kushtia, 40 people, including 37 students and two teachers of Islamic University (IU), were injured in a road accident at Bittipara area in Sadar upazila around 1:30am.
The two teachers are the university's Management Department assistant professors Dhananjoy Kumar and Murshid Alam, reports UNB.
Islamic University police station Officer-in-Charge Jahangir Arif said a bus carrying the students and teachers crashed into a roadside tree after hitting a stationary truck while heading towards the university from Naogaon, leaving 40 people injured.
Twelve of the injured, including the bus driver, were sent to Kushtia General Hospital while the others were taken to the University Medical Centre.
The IU students and teachers went to Naogaon for fieldwork on Wednesday.
