Baba Yara Sports and Essipong sports stadia have been shut down for renovation works following the deplorable state of the stadia.
The National Sports Authority (NSA) closed down the two stadiums for the works to kick start.
Both Baba Yara Sports and Essipong sports stadia were built in 2008 when Ghana hosted the AFCON, since then these stadia have not undergone any renovation works.
Sports Minister Hon. Isaac Asiamah posted on his Facebook page to announce the commencement of work.
‘On Monday 17th February 2020, I led a delegation which included the Director General of National Sports Authority (NSA) Prof. Pater Twumasi to Kumasi for an inspection tour of the facilities at the stadium.
‘Here, I announced the commencement of the renovation works of both the Baba Yara and Essipong sports stadia would begin in earnest.
‘The renovation works in both Stadia would be the first in the last 13 years. The renovation would include the replacement of the weak pitches, scoreboards floodlights and general water and sewage.
‘Lastly, the seating arrangements.
‘Works at the Baba Yara Stadium would, however, be temporarily paused to host this year's 6th March Independence Day celebration and works resume thereafter.’’
