It's Just Rumors! No Coronavirus Cases In Isolation Center
Feb. 20, 2020
There is no suspected case of coronavirus in the isolation center, said Dr. Ebba Abate, general director of Ethiopia Public Health Institute, on Tuesday. There were 60 rumors alert received by the public health institute emergency operation center. All cases have been investigated, Ebba said. Out of the rumors, 17 had symptoms and were put in the isolation center until their laboratory results known. But after investigation, including the testing of suspect cases, no case has been confirmed in the country, Dr. Ebba said.
Ethiopian public health is now increasing its isolation centers to other hospitals including such as Eka Kotebe general hospital, as the country steps up its readiness to contain a potential outbreak of coronavirus disease. Close to 120, 000 passengers with travel history to China have so far been screened at the third busiest in Africa, Addis Ababa Bole Airport. The national flag carrier, Ethiopian Airlines flies 35 times a week to China, but not to Wuhan city in Hubei province, the epicenter of the ongoing coronavirus epidemic. “In every border of the country, there is a strong screening system,” said Ebba. The country also has four international airports and 21 land border crossing points. According to the ministry of health, students who are in China are being treated by the Chinese and Ethiopian government until their return to their country. There are 71,432 confirmed cases and 1,775 have died because of the coronavirus as of Tuesday, according to the World Health Organization’s report. In Africa, there is only one confirmed case which is Egypt.
