March. 07, 2020
Barcelona injury woes have deepened with news that midfielder Arthur will miss the club’s Saturday's LaLiga match with Real Sociedad.
A statement on the club’s website noted that the midfielder who was included in the lasts Brazil squad picked an ankle injury during the week and hence didn’t feature in their Friday session.
“On Friday the team trained for the last time before the clash with Real Sociedad. The session saw all the available first team players take part with Riqui Puig, Collado and Ansu Fati from Barça B also involved.
“Brazilian midfielder Arthur Melo has an ankle problem and is undergoing treatment with Dr. Ramon Cugat's team and the player's recovery will dictate his return,” the statement noted.
Reports indicate that the player might sit out of action for three weeks with the news being a blow to Barca coach Quique Setien, who is already without Luis Suarez, Ousmane Dembele and Sergi Roberto for the visit of Sociedad.
The absence of Arthur means he is doubtful for Barca's Champions League last-16 clash with Napoli on March 18, with the first leg in Italy having finished 1-1.
