UEFA Now Wants English FA To Abolish League Cup
March. 08, 2020
The English FA should consider scrapping the League Cup, says UEFA president Alexander Ceferin.
Ceferin believes crapping the League Cup 'would be better for everyone' as it will lead to ease a congested fixture list. With the European governing body planning to expand the Champions League, it will result to adding further pressure onto an already packed fixture schedule for the country's leading clubs. The plan leaves the League Cup at risk in a bid to ease the workload.
France confirmed their League Cup competition will be dissolved at the end of the season. And there have been suggestions from PL bosses that England should follow the suit.
"The League Cup is off in France already. Only England remains," he The Times.
"I think that everybody knows that it would be better for everyone if that were not played anymore. But the problem is that, through that cup, you finance a lot of clubs that are quite disadvantaged, so I understand the problem."
"The English are also quite a traditionalist, you like things that have been there for ages."
Manchester City are the current holders of the Cup after beating Aston Villa 2-1 in the finals at Wembley Stadium last weekend. Pep Guardiola's men lifted the trophy for the seventh time in their history though the tournament is not prioritized.
