Martial's Goal In United Win Saw Him Equal This Chritiano Ronaldo Record
March. 09, 2020
Anthony Martial matches a Cristiano Ronaldo record in Manchester United’s derby win over neighbors City on Sunday.
Martial opened the scoring proceedings in the match after catching keeper Ederson in his near post before Scot McTominay ensured the points were safe late on after another Ederson error. The Frenchman had scored in the reversed fixture hosted at the Etihad in United’s famous 2-1 win.
The two goals against City this season means that Martial became the first United player to score in both Premier League Manchester derbies in the same season since Cristiano Ronaldo did it in the 2006/07 campaign.
The goal too was Martial’s 16th of the season in all competition an outing that equals his best ever Premier League goal tally for a season, with 11.
With the win, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side has now gone 10 games without defeat and is charging towards the top four.
The Frenchman though was substituted in the game after picking two deep cuts to his shins in a second-half collision with the woodwork and United will hope that he is fine when they take on LASK in the Europa League on Thursday.
