EUROPA League: Olympiacos vs Wolves To Be Played Behind Closed Doors
March. 10, 2020
The last 16 UEFA Europa League clash between Olympiacos and Wolves will now be played behind closed due to the Corona Virus scare.
The hosts dumped another English side, Arsenal, out of the competition in the last round, and will play host to the high-flying Wolves at the Karaiskakis Stadium in Piraeus, on Thursday.
The Greek government announced that spectators were barred from attending all professional sports events for the next two weeks, and the directive will affect the European clash.
The club released the information on Monday evening following a meeting between the government and UEFA officials.
"According to standard practice and strictly following the decisions of national authorities, UEFA decided to take place behind closed doors match Olympiakos - Wolverhampton phase of "16" of the UEFA Europa League, which is scheduled for Thursday at 12.03.2020," read part of the statement.
A number of matches have been played behind closed doors in recent days, with the Corona Virus threatening European leagues including the Serie A.
This is the second European match that will be played behind closed doors following an earlier announcement that fans will be barred from attending the PSG vs BvB match.
