Europa League: Olympiacos vs Wolves Preview And Predictions
March. 12, 2020
Wolves’ Europa League adventure continues when they travel to Olympiacos in the round-of-16 on Thursday.
Despite a 3-2 second-leg defeat, Nuno Espirito Santo’s men made light work of Espanyol in the previous round having thrashed the La Liga strugglers 4-0 at Molineux in the first leg.
That second-leg defeat is Wolves’ only loss in their last seven games but they’ll have to be at their best to beat an Olympiacos side unbeaten in the Greek Super League and buoyed by their shock progression past Arsenal in the previous round.
Olympiacos raised a few eyebrows with their win over Arsenal in the previous round and remain unbeaten atop the Greek Super League.
After a quiet new-year period, Diogo Jota has well and truly sparked back into life in recent weeks, kick-started by a fantastic hat-trick against Espanyol in the previous round.
The Portuguese forward’s dribbling skills and eye for a pass help him combine brilliantly with the likes of Raul Jimenez and Adama Traore, while Jota is more than adept at finishing chances himself.
As Arsenal found out to their peril, Olympiacos can never be underestimated but they will not have the support of their home fans for this match, as it will be played behind closed doors due to coronavirus fears.
Wolves are enjoying a strong run of form and that should give them the confidence to secure a draw at the very least, setting them up nicely for the return leg at Molineux.
Scoreline prediction: Olympiacos 1-1 Wolves
