Transfer Talk: Newcastle Step Up Phill Jones Interests
March. 16, 2020
English Premier League side Newcastle United is interested in the services of Manchester United defender Phil Jones.
Reports indicate that the Steve Bruce coached side is preparing a bid of £12 million for the 28-year-old who has found limited chances at Old Trafford this season.
Jones has not featured in the last seven Manchester United squads and has fallen below the pecking order at United with Eric Bailly, Axel Tuanzebe and Tim Fosu-Mensah all preferred as backups to Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof.
Preston-born Jones was handed a new four-year deal last February, a deal that would have seen him finish his stay at the English giants in 2023 but his shaky performances last term has seen him relegated to the bench.
Most clubs have not been interested in the player who is said to be on a £75,000 per week at United with no team ready to pay that amount for a player that is considered surplus to requirements at Old Trafford.

Jones has played 224 games for the Red Devils and scored six goals since he joined from Blackburn Rovers in 2011 for a similar fee of £16 million.
