Lorry Fares Shoot Up In Accra Again
Jul 6, 2020
The Concerned Drivers Union has threatened to increase transport fares by 30% following the high cost of fuel in the country.
According to the Vice-Chairman of the group, David Agboado, the compliance of social distancing protocols observed by drivers in their buses has seriously affected their businesses hence their intention to increase fares from Monday, July 6.
“We are telling our passengers that from today on when you go out, calculate 30% extra of what you used to pay”, he said.
However, the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC) has suggested that the government subside the price of fuel at the pumps for commercial drivers in the wake of the difficulties they are grappling with as a result of the social-distancing directive of the President, which has led to a reduction of the number of passengers they carry at any time.
