Nigerians have been celebrating Usman, who is one of their own, all day. The 33-year-old successfully defended his belt with a gritty display to earn scores of 50-45, 50-45, 49-46 from the three judges after five gruelling rounds in an "octagon in the sand" without spectators.
Beyond his impressive win, it is the manner in which the boxer represented his native country, Nigeria, that seems to stand out for many. Usman made a grand entry into the arena with Burna Boy's 'Anybody' playing in the background.
The African Giant's single played Usman in as he moved with swagger to the beat while draping a Nigerian flag around his shoulders. This energetic hit from Burna Boy definitely proved to be the inspiration Usman needed going into the fight as he saw his opponent, Masvidal, off in a convincing win.
