OMG! This Man Died By His Intestine Bursting Out Through His Anus During A Bout Of Diarrhea
Jul 15, 2020
Just when you think you have seen and heard it all, comes this shocking story of a hyper case of diarrhoea that killed Arius, Presbyter of Alexandria.
Arius, Presbyter of Alexandria, was the man who challenged Christianity’s leading theology died a most embarrassing and peculiar death. He was walking across the imperial forum in Constantinople when he was overtaken by a sudden and severe bout of diarrhoea. The quiet public display of the squirts was followed by haemorrhaging and then his intestines were expelled from his anus.
One of his contemporaries, Socrates Scholasticus, describes it thus: “…a terror arising from the remorse of conscience seized Arius, and with the terror a violent relaxation of the bowels; he, therefore, enquired whether there was a convenient place near, and being directed to the back of Constantine’s Forum, he hastened thither. Soon after a faintness came over him, and together with the evacuations his bowels protruded, followed by a copious haemorrhage, and the descent of the smaller intestines so that he almost immediately died.”
Arius, Presbyter of Alexandria, was a Libyan presbyter and ascetic, and priest in Baucalis in Alexandria, Egypt. His teachings about the nature of the Godhead in Christianity, which emphasized God, the Father's uniqueness and Christ's subordination under the Father, and his opposition to what would become the dominant Christology, Homoousian Christology, made him a primary topic of the First Council of Nicaea, which was convened by Emperor Constantine the Great in 325.
