Doctors warn increase use of cleaning products could lead to chemical burns
Jul 16, 2020
Doctors across the country are sending out a warning about sanitizers some companies are using on things like shopping carts, handles, and tables. The chemicals could cause burns and allergic reactions on your or your child's skin.
One Las Vegas doctor says alcohol, bleach, and ammonia often used in commercial sanitizers can lead to a reaction similar to a chemical burn.
Dr. Daliah Wachs sees 30-40 patients a day via telemedicine appointments. She says this spring she started noticing people with burn-like symptoms and made the connection to an increase in cleaning supplies.
"Just because it's a disinfectant doesn't mean it's skin safe," says Dr. Wachs.
She suggests bringing your own cleaning products with you to wipe down equipment when you're in public.
