Scott Parker ‘emotional’ and ‘proud’ as Fulham seal immediate return to Premier League with Championship play-off final win over Brentford
Aug 4, 2020
An ‘emotional’ Scott Parker insisted he is ‘proud’ of his Fulham side after they beat Brentford 2-1 in the Championship play-off final.
A Joe Bryan extra time brace ensured the Cottagers sealed an immediate return to the Premier League at Wembley .
Speaking to Sky Sports , Parker said: “I feel emotional and I suppose the journey you go on, you know the ups and downs and along the way the disappointment.
“I’m the face that fronts it up, but behind the scenes, the support network of people, they keep you going in those times.
“That’s why I feel emotional, I feel for those people that aren’t here [due to coronavirus] and the fans supporting the team.
“As a manager you’ve sometimes not got that. I’m so proud of my team and what we’ve done.”
Parker was named Fulham caretaker boss for the final three months of their Premier League campaign last year as they won just seven of their 38 top-flight matches.
He was appointed on a permanent basis towards the end of the season and inherited a team which conceded a whopping 81 league goals.
But in his first full season in charge, Parker turned Fulham’s fortunes around to earn the club a second promotion in three years.
He added: “I’ve learned so much. I’m sure I’ll be learning until my time as a manager ends. Where we came in the Premier League, we had open, big wounds.
