Leclerc not expecting another Silverstone podium
Aug 8, 2020
Charles Leclerc is not expecting to make it back-to-back podiums for himself and Ferrari at Silverstone this weekend.
Ferrari have performed far below what was expected of them so far in 2020, but for all that negativity Leclerc has been able to take full advantage of circumstances in his favour to claim two podiums this season.
The first came at the season-opening Austrian Grand Prix, before a series of tyre failures at the British Grand Prix last weekend gave him a helping hand into P3 for his second podium finish of 2020.
But the second race weekend at Silverstone for the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix has been a real struggle for Ferrari. In particular for four-time World Champion Sebastian Vettel, but Leclerc is also comfortably down on where he would like to be.
He will start the race from P8, and Sky F1 asked the two-time race winner if he was surprised by that lowly starting position?
“Surprised? No,” was his response.
“I think it’s a more realistic picture for us to be honest.
“We have been struggling more than last week here, especially with the softer tyres, we seem to be more aggressive on them and we don’t even manage to finish the full lap in Q3 with these soft tyres, they are dropping off quite a lot in the last sector, we lose quite a lot of lap time there.
“But there is not much we can do for now.”
