- Victor Osimhen claims he could also become Napoli legends like Maradona, Higuain and Cavani
- The Nigerian international joined Napoli for a record-breaking transfer from Lille
- Maradona won two Serie A titles while Higuain and Cavani were prolific scorers for the club
Victor Osimhen wishes to emulate Napoli legends in terms of achievements including Diego Maradona, Edison Cavani and Gonzalo Higuain.
The 21-year-old become Africa's costliest player following his summer move to the Serie A giants in the past week and will spend the next five years in Naples.
The former Lille striker was linked to several clubs in the Premier League because of his 18 goals, and six assists in 38 matches in the 2019-20 campaign for the Ligue 1 side.
Maradona brought Napoli to prominence during his spell with the club winning the Serie A title in the 1986/87 and 1989/90 seasons as well as the UEFA Cup in the 1988/89 campaign.
On the hand, Higuain became the highest goal scorer in a single Serie A season during the 2015/16 campaign with Napoli before Ciro Immobile equalled the record at the just concluded term.
Cavani scored 33 goals each in his first two seasons at Naples and went on to score 38 in his third campaign which Osimhen believes he can match the goal scoring heroics.
“I hope that I will take this step further. It is a step that gives me the chance to become part of the history of Naples,” Osimhen stated in an interview with Sport1.
“There have been greats here like Maradona, Cavani, Higuain.
“We will be in Europe next season. I want to help the club do well in this competition and in the league too.”
