Manchester United holding up Alex Telles deal by haggling with Porto over asking price
Sep 23, 2020
Manchester United risk losing out on Porto to the likes of Paris Saint-Germain due to the club’s attempts to drive down a fee for the left-back.
Telles, 27, is keen on a move to Old Trafford and he has reportedly agreed personal terms over a £75,000-a-week salary at the club.
However, United are yet to agree a fee with Porto for the Brazil international, who has just one year to run on his contract in Portugal.
Telles has a £36million release clause in his contract but Porto would accept a fee closer to £23m this summer given they risk losing him on a free transfer in 12 months’ time.
However, United believe that they can drive that asking price down even further in the remaining time before the transfer window closes and the Telegraph report that the two clubs are no closer over an agreement.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had earmarked making as many as four signings this summer but he considered three – a midfielder, a left-back and a right winger – to be a priority and he wanted them signed before the season started.
The Norwegian hinted at his anger at the club’s lack of reinforcements following the 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace on Saturday, while Luke Shaw broke ranks to demand the club strengthen in the transfer market.
Given Telles is said to have agreed personal terms with United, a deal could move quickly if a fee is agreed for the full-back.
