Sep 23, 2020
Tom Cruise and Doug Liman will go into space in October 2021 with Elom Musk's SpaceX Crew Dragon.
Tom Cruise and director Doug Liman may head into space in October 2021 for their upcoming film. A chart shared by Space Shuttle Almanac revealed that the actor and the director will be accompanying SpaceX pilot Lopez Alegria to the space in SpaceX Crew Dragon.
On Monday the Twitter handle for the Space Shuttle Almanac shared a chart of spacecrafts and countries set to launch in the next three years. The chart reveals some names from Hollywood that will be going into space.
Under the October 2021 part of the chart reads “SpaceX Crew Dragon,” with an image of a small space vehicle beside it. Next to the illustration are a list of three names: SpaceX Pilot Lopez Alegria, Tourist 1 Tom Cruise and Tourist 2 Doug Liman. The tourist flight also shows a vacant spot for a third visitor.
In May, reports claimed that Tom Cruise is teaming up with the Elon Musk company for NASA’s first narrative film. In July, it was reported that Universal will back the $200 million space film.
Earlier this year, NASA confirmed their involvement in the project through Twitter. NASA administrator Jim Bridenstine tweeted, “NASA is excited to work with @TomCruise on a film aboard the @Space_Station! We need popular media to inspire a new generation of engineers and scientists to make @NASA’s ambitious plans a reality (sic).”
