One Feared Dead As Gunmen Attack Church In A'Ibom Community

Uyo – A n elder in one of the Pentecostal churches in Akwa Ibom (name withheld) is currently battling with his life over Sunday morning attack by gunmen numbering over 10 who shot him right inside the church.
The act was perpetrated when gunmen invaded the church during an early morning church meeting  in Inen Ikot Esse village , OrukAnam local government area and shot the church Elder while members scampered for safety.
The cult unrest in Oruk Anam which has become a recurring decimal comes less than a year after state government amnesty restored normalcy to the tensed Etim Ekpo and Ukanafun LGAs,  neighbouring council areas to Oruk Anam.
An eyewitness, Mr Sunday Ibanga, said the Elder was accosted and shot severally on the head leaving him in the pool of blood causing other members to lie low as the assailants engaged in a shooting spree in the church premises.
Ibanga said the attack overtook a new pastor who  assumed duty in the church a day earlier. The Pastor, he said had to reach  out to the church headquarters for vehicle to evaquate the victim  to hospital for treatment .
Wife of the victim,  simply identified as Mrs Iniobong who spoke with our correspondent who visited the victim at the hospital on Tuesday said the victim left for church that early morning to attend to his duties leaving her and the children at home  to join him for the Sunday service later.
