Arashi, Anitta & Stray Kids Make Moves on Billboard's New Global Charts

Japan’s Arashi debuts with its new Bruno Mars collab.
On Sept. 14, Billboard announced the launch of two new global surveys . The Billboard Global 200 and the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. charts rank the most popular songs in the world, based on streams and download sales from more than 200 territories, powered by Nielsen Music/MRC Data.
We've already seen the scope of international acts on both tallies, and this week brings even more artists shining in the global spotlight.
While Justin Bieber’s “Holy,” featuring Chance the Rapper, leads 22 debuts on the Oct. 3-dated Billboard Global 200 (at No. 3) and 18 on the Global Excl. U.S. chart (where “Holy” starts at No. 5), a sea of acts from outside of North America flood the charts.
Japanese boy band Arashi breaks onto the Billboard Global 200 at No. 51 with “Whenever You Call,” thanks to 6.8 million streams and 48,000 sold. Almost all its streams and sales are from outside the U.S., reflected by its even more impressive No. 17 entrance on the Global Excl. U.S. chart (which encompasses global data excluding U.S. totals).
The song, co-written by Bruno Mars, does, however, debut at No. 10 on the U.S.-based World Digital Song Sales chart (with under 1,000 in domestic sales).
Plus, South Korean acts Stray Kids (“Back Door,” new on the Global 200 at No. 169) and Treasure (“I Love You,” No. 80 Global Excl. U.S.; No. 170 Billboard Global 200) rank at Nos. 6 and 9 on World Digital Song Sales.
Brazilian singer/actress/TV personality Anitta enters the Global 200 at No. 37 and Global Excl. U.S. at No. 38 with “Me Gusta,” featuring Cardi B (from the U.S.). and Myke Towers (from Puerto Rico). With the bulk of its streams from outside the U.S., it enters the U.S.-based Hot 100 at No. 91 (it also debuts at No. 5 on the U.S.-based Hot Latin Songs chart).
Meanwhile, artists from the Dominican Republic (Damso, “Deux Toiles de Mer”), France (Naza & Nisko, “Joli Bebe”) and Germany (Capital Bra, “Einsam An Der Spitze) debut on the Global Excl. U.S. chart at Nos. 99, 156, and 188, respectively, likewise with a nominal amount of streaming and sales activity from the U.S.
