How to Prevent Your Mask from Fogging Your Glasses
Oct 1, 2020
The majority of Americans are now wearing masks when venturing outside their homes. One unfortunate side effect of masks is that they may contribute to foggy glasses.
Foggy lenses can happen when a glasses-wearer enters a warmer or cooler environment in a quick temperature change. Masks facilitate fogginess because warm, moist air can get exhaled directly into glasses .
To prevent the fogginess , you need to stop the air from hitting your glasses. An article in The Annals of the Royal College of Surgeons of England published an article that gave advice on preventing foggy glasses. They recommended a cleaning tip. “Washing the spectacles with soapy water leaves behind a thin surfactant film that reduces this surface tension and causes the water molecules to spread out evenly into a transparent layer,” the article shares . “This ‘surfactant effect’ is widely utilised to prevent misting of surfaces in many everyday situations.”
Another solution is to examine the tightness of your mask. The tighter the mask to your nose, the less air that can escape and fog the lens .
