Shane Warne rates Rajasthan Royals’ IPL title chances and hails India batsman Sanju Samson
Oct 1, 2020
Shane Warne expects Rajasthan Royals to challenge for the Indian Premier League title and has tipped star player Sanju Samson to become a multi-format player for India.
The Royals won their opening two matches of this year’s IPL before suffering a 37-run defeat at the hands of Kolkata Knight Riders on Wednesday.
Rajasthan have not reached an IPL final since they won the inaugural tournament in 2008 but Australia legend Warne believes that could change over the next six weeks.
‘You get the feeling that this is the Royals’ year,’ said Warne, who was appointed as a Rajasthan Royals mentor ahead of the 2020 tournament .
‘I think the squad looks great, some great young talent, some experienced players, good variety in the bowling attack, power hitters and manipulators of the ball.
‘Some good players of spin and pace, good combination of left and right-handers.
‘So, I think the squad is there. It’s about them being able to deliver. If we can deliver our skills, then I feel it could be the Royals’ year.’
Warne, the second leading wicket-taker in the history of Test cricket, also hailed Rajasthan and India batsman Samson.
The 25-year-old, who has played four T20 matches for India, scored back-to-back fifties as Rajasthan began their IPL campaign strongly.
