Manchester United icon Andy Cole slams ‘disrespectful’ Mikel Arteta for treatment of Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette

Andy Cole has slammed Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta for his ‘disrespectful’ treatment of Alexandre Lacazette.
Eyebrows were raised when the Spaniard chose to use summer signing Willian as a No.9 in the 1-0 defeat to Manchester City on Saturday and the Brazilian struggled to make an impact leading the line.
Lacazette, who is currently the Gunners’ top scorer this season, came on as a substitute in the 68th minute but failed to find a breakthrough off the bench.
And Cole has now slammed Arteta for his treatment of the Frenchman.
“I think he is being disrespectful to Lacazette as well,” he told talkSPORT. “Willian is not a centre-forward.
“If you have got a centre-forward on the bench who is your top goalscorer as well, to turn around and say, ‘Look, I am going to play Willian as the centre-forward. You sit on the bench and watch him play centre-forward’, I think that is very disrespectful.”
Ultimately, Raheem Sterling’s 23rd-minute goal proved the difference between the sides as Ederson made key saves from Bukayo Saka and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the first half.
And Arteta admitted he was frustrated to come away empty-handed against his old boss, but the former City assistant took encouragement from the performance.
“(It’s disappointing) not to get anything from the game given the way the game went because I felt we kept growing and growing with more belief that we could get something from it,” he said.
