Manchester United omit Phil Jones and Sergio Romero from 25-man Premier League squad
Oct 20, 2020
Phil Jones and Sergio Romero have been left out of Manchester United’s 25-man Premier League squad for the 2020/21 campaign.
The pair, who were also omitted from United’s Champions League squad earlier this month, are yet to make an appearance this season.
Defender Jones and goalkeeper Romero have both fallen well out of favour under manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer , with recent developments casting doubts over their long-term futures at Old Trafford.
Former England international Jones, who signed a new four-year contract in February 2019, last featured for United in a 6-1 FA Cup victory over Tranmere seven months ago – a game in which he scored.
Argentine goalkeeper Romero, meanwhile, played back-to-back games for the Red Devils in Europa League encounters against LASK and FC Copenhagen towards the end of last season.
Returning Sheffield United loanee Dean Henderson and David de Gea are well ahead of Romero in the goalkeeping pecking order though, with Lee Grant named as third-choice keeper in United’s Premier League squad.
Marcos Rojo, who is back at United following his loan spell with Estudiantes, is included in the squad despite being omitted from their Champions League plans until at least January.
Deadline-day signings Alex Telles and Edinson Cavani have also made the cut.
