Julian Nagelsmann jokes he’ll slide tackle Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for scoring Manchester United’s winner in 1999 Champions League final
Oct 28, 2020
Julian Nagelsmann joked that he would slide tackle Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on the touchline in revenge for ruining his childhood.
Solskjaer broke Bayern Munich hearts back in 1999 when he scored the winning goal for Manchester United in the Champions League final.
Nagelsmann was just 12 at the time and revealed how devastated he was at the time.
He is now RB Leipzig manager and faces United in the Champions League group stages on Wednesday .
“As soon as I see Solskjaer, I’m going to dive in for a sliding tackle,” Nagelsmann said.
“My dad was a Borussia Monchengladbach fan and he teased me a bit. He was happy Bayern didn’t win.
“I was not that happy.”
Despite his comments about his opposite number, Nagelsmann paid plenty of compliments to the Man United team ahead of their meeting at Old Trafford.
Dutch football expert Marcel van der Kraan says Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may have made false promises to Donny van de Beek
He added: ”We know that they are very good and very tough to defeat, especially when you talk about the forwards or the offensive midfielders.
“They have a lot of qualities in the final third and we have to be aware of these situations. We have to close the space behind our defensive line.
“If we are very aggressive and we are watchful on these situations, then we are self-confident enough to talk about winning the game tomorrow [Wednesday].”
